Grade K

The Big Idea

Students need to be introduced to some of the basic concepts such as community and people in a community. At this point, the relationship between a real community and a virtual community should be connected. They need to understand the difference between a trusted adult and a stranger. It should be emphasized that students should always use a trusted adult while going online and differentiate what it means to feel safe versus unsafe. The students should also discuss the ways a trusted adult can keep them safe...i.e. checking first with the trusted adult and taking a trusted adult friend along.
